Abstract

Drug management is an essential component of pharmaceutical services at primary healthcare facilities, particularly in ensuring the availability of essential medicines to support promotive, preventive, curative, and rehabilitative services. This study aims to describe the drug procurement process at Purworejo Primary Healthcare Center (Puskesmas Purworejo), Purworejo Regency, during the period of January to June 2025. A descriptive observational method was used through direct observation, interviews, and document review, including LPLPO reports, stock cards, drug shortage lists, logbooks, and purchase invoices. The results showed that the total procurement of drugs and medical supplies reached 227,156 items with a total budget of Rp 60,790,152.01. The most frequently procured medicines were for non-communicable diseases (NCDs), such as Metformin, Amlodipine, Lisinopril, Glimepiride, and Allopurinol, reflecting a high burden of NCDs in the service area. Additionally, rapid tests for cholesterol and uric acid, as well as ADVIA laboratory reagents, contributed significantly to procurement expenditures. Overall, the procurement process was carried out effectively and aligned with national drug management standards; however, several challenges were identified, including inaccurate documentation, frequent small-volume purchases, and potential imbalance in fast-moving drug stock. This study suggests improving planning accuracy, strengthening stock monitoring, enhancing documentation, and optimizing BLUD budget utilization to support more efficient and effective healthcare services.
