Abstract

Background : Mental health is defined as a state of well-being in which individuals are aware of their own abilities, can cope with the normal stresses of life, can work productively and fruitfully and are able to make a contribution to their community. Teenagers are very susceptible to mental health disorders. On the other hand, teenagers have the perception that mental health services are provided for people with mental disorders or for people with problems, not for teenagers in general. Research aim: The aim of this research is to find out how teenagers perceive mental health in Kalirejo village. Research method: This research uses a descriptive analytic method with a cross sectional approach. Research results: The research results show that most teenagers have positive perceptions, 154 (95.7%) people, while 7 (4.3%) respondents with negative perceptions. Conclusion of the research, the respondents of this study were teenagers in Kalirejo village, Kebumen with a total of 161 people, aged 11-18 years, with elementary, middle and high school education, with the majority religion being Islam and some of them joining organizations. Adolescents in Kalirejo village have a positive perception of mental health and it is not related to the characteristics of the respondents. Suggestions, it is hoped that teenagers will improve their perception as well as preventive measures and care for individuals with mental disorders as well as for institutions to increase the role of related agencies and nurses, especially juvenile nurses, in implementing youth development.
