Abstract

Background: Adolescence is a dynamic developmental phase in a person’s life. Many women experience dysmenorrhea. The prevalence of primary dysmenorrhea in Indonesia is approximately 54.89%, while the rest suffer from the secondary type. The incidence of dysmenorrhea pain ranges from 45–49% among women of reproductive age. The degree of pain varies among women, with some still able to carry out daily activities, while others are unable to do so. Objective: To determine the effectiveness of acupressure and lemon aromatherapy in reducing dysmenorrhea pain among adolescents. Methods: This study used a case study design with an individual approach. The research focused on a single case for observation and analysis. Data were collected using a questionnaire to assess pain intensity before and after the intervention. Pain was measured using the Visual Analog Scale (VAS). Results: The combination of acupressure and lemon aromatherapy proved to be more effective compared to a single intervention. The average pain reduction reached 2–3 points on the VAS scale, and most respondents reported significant pain relief, with some experiencing almost complete disappearance of symptoms. Conclusion: This study strengthens the evidence that complementary therapies, such as acupressure and lemon aromatherapy, can serve as non-pharmacological alternatives for menstrual pain management that are simple, safe, and applicable in schools and community settings.
