Abstract

Background, children (toddlers) from 1 to 3 years of age are very sensitive to external stimuli and influences. These children will have a tendency to repeat the same activity and feel happiness when they succeed, but if they do not succeed, they can show temper tantrums. Temper tantrums are emotional outbursts in which the child cannot control emotions. In Semarang City, Central Java, the frequency of normal temper tantrums was 81% and abnormal behavior was 29%. Objective, this study aims to determine the relationship between parenting patterns and temper tantrums in children aged 1-3 years in Kemukus Village, Gombong District. Methods, the research method used quantitative research with a cross-sectional approach. The sample amounted to 75 respondents with total sampling technique. Measurement of parenting styles used Parenting Styles Questionnaire (PSQ) instrument, while measurement of temper tantrum used temper tantrum instrument. Data were analyzed using Spearman Rho bivariate test. Result, most parents or 42 respondents (56.0%) used democratic parenting, and most or 36 children (48%) of children aged 1-3 years experienced moderate temper tantrums. The results of the spearman test of parenting patterns with temper tantrum behavior obtained a value of p = 0.000. Conclusion, there is a relationship between parenting patterns and temper tantrums in toddler age children (1-3 years) in Kemukus Village, Gombong District. Recommedation, It is hoped that other factors that influence temper tantrums can be examined.
