Abstract

Background: Diabetes mellitus is a chronic disease that can lead to complications such as diabetic ulcers, which can adversely affect the quality of life of patients. According to data from the International Diabetes Federation (IDF) in 2021, there are 537 million people worldwide suffering from diabetes mellitus, and this number is expected to rise to 643 million by 2030. One of the efforts to prevent these complications is through structured self-management. Objective: To identify the correlation between a structured self-management program and the quality of life in patients with diabetic ulcers. Methods: This study employs a quantitative method with a descriptive correlational design and utilizes a cross-sectional approach. The sample consists of 97 respondents selected using a total sampling technique. The instruments used in this study are two questionnaires, the DSMQ (Diabetes Self-Management Questionnaire) and the WHOQOL-BREF (World Health Organization Quality of Life-Bref). Data were analyzed using IBM SPSS Statistics with the Chi-Square test. Results: The results of the study indicate that 78 respondents have good selfmanagement, with a percentage of 80.4%, and 68 respondents have a high quality of life, with a percentage of 70.1%. The analysis using the Chi-Square test shows a Pearson Chi-Square value of 42.824 with a p-value of 0.000 (p < 0.05), indicating a correlation between the structured self-management program and the quality of life in patients with diabetic ulcers. Conclusion: Respondents are able to manage their condition in a structured manner and make informed decisions regarding their health, indicating that structured selfmanagement has a positive impact on the quality of life of patients with diabetic ulcers. Recommendation: Future researchers may explore other factors such as psychosocial, economic, and cultural aspects that influence structured selfmanagement and the quality of life of patients with diabetic ulcers.
