Abstract

Background: According to WHO, (2023) 192 countries and territories with more than 99% of the world's population reported cases of TB. In 2022, more than 724,000 new cases of TB were found in Indonesia, the number increasing to 809,000 cases in 2023. In pediatric patients with Pulmonary TB, hypersecretion of the respiratory tract mucosa produces mucus, so that small particles that enter the respiratory tract will stick to the respiratory tract which if not removed will block the airway, so that the patient will feel short of breath. Therefore, it is important to provide physiotherapy combined with mint leaf aromatherapy. Objective: To explain nursing care for children with Pulmonary TB with ineffective airway clearance problems at Wonosobo Regional Hospital. Method: This scientific paper uses a descriptive case study design. The subjects of the case study were 5 children with Pulmonary TB with ineffective airway clearance problems. Data collection using observation, interview and documentation study techniques. Results: Evaluation of the five patients showed that after being given mint leaf aromatherapy therapy and chest physiotherapy, the majority of patients experienced a decrease in wheezing, rhonchi, dyspnea, and restlessness, and an average respiratory rate of 25 x/m. Whereas before being given mint leaf aromatherapy therapy and chest physiotherapy, the majority of patients had wheezing, rhonchi, dyspnea, and restlessness, and an average respiratory rate of 35 x/m. Conclusion: The mint leaf aromatherapy technique and chest physiotherapy in improving airway clearance in patients to overcome airway clearance problems are not effective in pediatric patients with pulmonary TB with ineffective airway clearance problems.
