Abstract

Background: Elderly individuals are defined as those aged 60 years and above (Ariyanti et al., 2020). In May 2021, hypertension was reported as the most prevalent disease in Indonesia, affecting 38% of the total population (Ministry of Health, Republic of Indonesia, 2021). Non-pharmacological interventions such as foot soak therapy using warm water combined with salt and lemongrass have been shown to be effective in reducing high blood pressure. Objective: This study aims to describe family nursing care in the elderly developmental stage with the nursing problem of ineffective health maintenance through foot soak therapy using warm water with salt and lemongrass. Method: This scientific paper employs a descriptive case study approach. Data were collected through interviews, observation, and documentation. The case study subjects consisted of families in the elderly developmental stage experiencing ineffective health maintenance. Results: Assessment of the three participating families revealed a consistent nursing problem of ineffective health maintenance. The intervention and implementation included administering foot soak therapy using warm water with salt and lemongrass for eight sessions. The findings demonstrated that this therapy effectively reduced high blood pressure. Recommendation: Foot soak therapy using warm water with salt and lemongrass is recommended as an effective non-pharmacological approach to manage uncontrolled hypertension in elderly individuals.
