Abstract

Background: Handwashing is one of the important clean and healthy behaviors to prevent the spread of disease. However, many school children do not have the knowledge and skills to wash their hands properly. One educational method that can be used to improve children's ability is Card-talling, which is interactive and fun. Objective: To describe nursing care through education using the Card-taling method in improving hand washing skills in school-age children. Methods: This study used a descriptive approach with a case study method. The research subjects were three 7-year-old children. The intervention was conducted three times using a modified truth or dare card game to teach hand washing steps. Observations were made before and after the intervention using the prepared observation sheet. Results: Before the intervention, the three children did not understand the importance of hand washing and had never washed their hands in the right way. After the Card-talling intervention for three days, there was an increase in hand washing ability from a score of 1 to 6. Conclusion: Card-talling educational method is effective in improving handwashing knowledge and skills among school-age children.
