Abstract

Background: Asthma is a chronic inflammatory disease of the airways, characterized by shortness of breath and wheezing, which is triggered by allergens, excessive physical activity, and stress. The main nursing problem is ineffective breathing patterns. Non-pharmacological interventions such as balloon blowing therapy are efficient, simple, and minimal side effects alternatives to improve patient respiratory function. Objective: This study aims to describe nursing care with the main nursing problem of ineffective breathing patterns in asthma patients with blowing balloon therapy in the Emergency Department (IGD). Method: The study used a descriptive case study approach with three adult clients treated in the ER with a nursing diagnosis of ineffective breathing patterns. The intervention was carried out in the form of blowing balloon therapy for three consecutive days. Data were collected through interviews, vital sign observations, and physical examinations before and after therapy. Results: After being given balloon blowing therapy, all three patients showed an increase in oxygen saturation and a decrease in breathing rate. For example, in one client there was an increase in oxygen saturation from 93% to 100% and a decrease in breathing rate from 28x/minute to 20x/minute. This therapy has been proven to help improve breathing patterns and reduce shortness of breath. Recommendation: It is recommended that balloon blowing therapy be part of standard nursing interventions for asthma patients in the IGD. Nurses are also advised to provide education to patients and families about this breathing technique as an independent effort in managing asthma symptoms at home.
