Abstract

Background: The elderly are an age group that is vulnerable to various health problems, one of which is hypertension. In Central Java, the prevalence of elderly hypertension was recorded at 37.57%, while in Kebumen Regency it was 45,746, so the number of elderly people with hypertension is quite high. Hypertension is often accompanied by symptoms of acute pain in the head or nape. One nonpharmacological therapy that has been proven effective in reducing pain is warm compress therapy, which can improve blood circulation and relieve muscle tension. Objective: Explaining nursing care for elderly hypertensive patients with acute pain nursing problems using warm compress therapy as a non-pharmacological intervention to reduce pain intensity. Method: This study was conducted on three elderly people in Sidoharum Village with acute pain due to hypertension. Intervention in the form of warm compress therapy was carried out six times in two weeks. Data were obtained through interviews, observations, and physical examinations Results: Based on a case study of three elderly respondents with complaints of acute pain due to hypertension, warm compress therapy has been proven to be effective in reducing pain. The nursing diagnosis that was established was acute pain due to physiological injury agents. The intervention carried out was with warm compresses for 6 meetings. The evaluation results showed a decrease in pain from a pain scale of 7 to 3, decreased sleep disturbances, and decreased blood pressure. Warm compress therapy can be concluded as an effective and safe method for reducing pain. Recommendation: Warm compress therapy has been proven effective in reducing pain and can be used as a non pharmacological intervention in nursing elderly hypertensive patients and is recommended to be done independently at home.
