Abstract
Background: Sectio Caesarea is an artificial delivery, i.e. a fetus born through an incision in the abdominal wall. Ordinarily, the impact of doing Sectio Caesarea is a pain in the area of the incision. Non-pharmacological method, such as endorphine massage and lavender aromatherapy, is a way to decrease the pain. Objective: To know the effectiveness of administering endorphine massage compared to lavender aromatherapy on the pain intensity of post Sectio Caesarea. Method: This study is a quasi experimental with Pretest and Posttest Control Group Design. The samples were 60 respondents taken by Accidental Sampling. Data was analyzed by using Kruskall Wallis test. Result: After having endorpine massage, the pain intensity average of post Sectio Caesarea has decreased – from 4.5 to be 3 with the mean difference 1.611. Furthermore, the pain intensity average has also decreased after having lavender aromatherapy, i.e. from 4.5 to be 3.25, with mean difference 1.277. Conclusion: There was no significant difference in the effectiveness of pain intensity decrease of endorphine massage compared to lavender aromatherapy on post Sectio Caesarea patients with p = 0.149 (p < 0.05). Recommendation: The application of endorphine massage and lavender aromatherapy are effective to decrease the pain intensity of post Sectio Caesarea patients, so as to minimize the application of pharmacological therapy.
