Abstract
Background: Low birth weight (LBW) is a newborn baby with a birth weight of less than 2500 grams regardless of gestational age. The problem that often arises of a baby with LBW is hypothermia. Kangaroo method or Kangaroo Mother Care (KMC) is a kind of treatment that can be applied for a low newborn baby weight. Objective: To describe a nursing care by applying kangaroo method as an effort to overcome hypothermia of a newborn baby with LBW. Method: This study is an analytical descriptive with a case study approach. The subject is a newborn baby with LBW having hypothermic problem in Dr. Soedirman hospital. The data was obtained from interview, observation, physical examination, documentation study, and home visit. The analysis and presentation of the data were done by using narrative technique. Result: After applying kangaroo method (KMC), the body temperature of the baby had increased, i.e. from 36,40C to be 36,90C. Conclusion: The application of Kangaroo method (KMC) can increase body temperature under normal circumstances.
