Abstract

Background: The belief of a post partum mother regarding her ability to breastfeed is very important. In Indonesia the coverage of exclusive breastfeeding has only reached 42%. There are four main sources of information that affect self-efficacy in postpartum mothers, namely previous breastfeeding experiences, experiences of seeing other people breastfeeding, family support and stress. Objective: To find out the factors that influence breastfeeding self efficacy in post partum mothers in PKU Muhammadiyah Gombong Hospital. Research Methods: This study uses a correlational design with a cross-sectional approach. Samples totaling 31 post partum mothers were taken by purposive sampling. Data were analyzed using descriptive and correlative chi square tests. Results: most patients had breastfeeding experience (71.0%), had seen other people breastfeeding (100.0%), had sufficient family support (54.8), experienced normal stress (45.2%) and most post partum mothers with a high Breastfeeding Self Efficacy category (64.5%). There was an influence of previous breastfeeding experience on Breastfeeding Self Efficacy in post partum mothers (p = 0.006). There was no effect on the experience of seeing other people breastfeeding against Breastfeeding Self Efficacy in post partum mothers. There is an influence of family support for breastfeeding self efficacy in post partum mothers (0,000). There is an effect of stress on selfefficacy breastfeeding in postpartum mothers (0.002). Conclusion: Factors of previous breastfeeding experience, family support, and stress affect breastfeeding self efficacy. Recommendation: Examining stress levels as one of the factors that influence Breastfeeding Cell Efficacy using qualitative methods.
