Abstract

Background: Renal failure is a systemic disease and is the final common pathway of a variety of diseases of the urinary tract and kidneys. Status in healthy or sick family members and family influence each other. An illness in the family affects the whole ancestry and otherwise influence the course of a disease and the effect of a healthy or diseased state of mutual influence or highly dependent on each other. Spiritual support to the family of chronic renal failure patients may be a therapeutic medication in improving coping, social support, optimism and hope, reduce depression and anxiety, as well as supporting a feeling of relaxation. Objective: to determine the family experience in fulfilling the spiritual needs of patients with chronic renal failure in pku muhammadiyah gombong hospital. Method: This is a qualitative research using phenomenological approach. Populations consist of 74 respondents with social situation of the families with patients with chronic renal failure undergoing hemodialysis. The participants of the research are 5 respondents. The data collceting technique is in-depth interview. Results: efforts of the famiy to increase devotion to God Almighty are by suggesting the patients to pray and beg for the recovery to God and frequently read the Holy Qur’an. To increase worship intesity, the family are motivating the patient to do worship and reminding patients when they are forget to do worship. To encourage patients, the family are advising the patient to accept their condition sincerely, leaving it to God and to be optimistic in their life. To give knowledge about religion, the family are encouraging the patient to assemblies that teach the science of religion and encouraging patients to increase knowledge about the religion through electronic media. To warn the patients to fulfill religious obligations are encouraging patients to imideatly to do religious obligations and to do charity.
