Abstract
Background, one of the most common dental and oral diseases found in the community is dental caries. In 2013 the Indonesian population showed an increase in the percentage of active caries prevalence, by 43.4% in 2007 and continuing to increase by 53.2% in 2013. The use of mouthwash with synthetic active ingredients can cause harmful side effects if used in the long term. Ganitri leaf is one of the plants that have the potential to an antibacterial. Purpose, obtain a mouthwash preparation formula for ganitri leaf ethanol extract which had good physical stability and was effective. Method, the extraction stage of ganitri leaves, the manufacture of mouthwash preparations with 3 formulas using variations in the concentration of propylene glycol F1 (5%), F2 (10%), F3 and (20%) followed by formula evaluation including organoleptic tests, stability tests, hedonic tests, pH test and inhibition diameter test. Result, the mouthwash formula has a green appearance, menthol smell, sweet taste and clear. The results of the stability test of F3 were more stable in terms of color, odor, taste, clarity and precipitate than F1 and F2. In the hedonic test, F3 became the panelists' most preferred formula in terms of color, aroma and turbidity. The results of the pH test showed that all formulas met the mouthwash pH standard with the best pH level in formula 3 of 6.4. The results of the viscosity test of all formulas have a low viscosity close to the viscosity of water, namely 1.13-2.12cps. Inhibitory diameter test showed that all formulas had the best inhibitory power at F3 of 13.5mm, which had no significant difference with the positive control (P< 0,05). Conclusion, formula 3 with a concentration of 2% ganitri leaf ethanol extract and 15% propylene glycol had the best physical evaluation of the preparation and had the best inhibitory diameter. Recommendation, replace the buffer material so that the mouthwash preparation has a stable pH in storage.
