Abstract
Background, Salam leaf (Eugina polyntha) is a plant that contains flavonoids that have antioxidant activity so that facial wash preparations can be made. Facial wash is a facial cleanser that is used to clean dead skin cells, dirt, oil and cosmetics. Research purpose, to make facial wash preparations with variations of carbopol 940 that meet the physical test of the preparation and have antioxidant activity using the DPPH method Methods, This research is experimental by designing the formulation of facial wash of bay leaf with variations of carbopol 940 and evaluation of its physical preparations includes organoleptic test, pH test, viscosity test, stability test, iritaai test and hedonic test. Antioxidant activity test was carried out using the DPPH (1,1-Diphenyl-2-Picrylhydrazil) method. Results, The results of the evaluation of the physical properties of the facial wash include organoleptic formulas 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 which have a gel dosage form, a distinctive smell of bay leaf, and a green-black color. The preparation is homogeneous and has a pH value in the range of 4.5- 6.5, the foam height in the 3rd formulation meets the standard, the viscosity test meets the standard in the 2nd and 3rd formulations, irritation test for the absence of irritation in the 3rd formulation and for the 1st formulation , 2, 4, 5, 6 have a little irritation, hedonic test is carried out with the criteria of shape, color and odor which are widely preferred in the 2nd formulation test. Testing of statistical tests with the results of pH test, high foam test and viscosity test is carried out by One Way ANOVA test with the result for p value < 0.05. The result of the value of IC50 in the market facial wash preparation is 8,88 ppm while for the bay leaf facial wash it is 10,53 ppm. Conclusion, carbopol 940 gel base affects the physical properties of the preparation with p <0.05, and the vitamin C has an antioxidant effect with a value of IC50 of 8,88 ppm for positive control preparations and facial wash preparations with a value of IC50 at 10,53 ppm. Recommendation, The recommendation from this research is to make different variations of the active substance by using other methods and solvents
