Abstract
Background: From the 2018 WHO data, it was found that the incidence of menstrual pain in the world is still high, on average more than 50% of women in every country experience menstrual pain. The problem of menstrual pain is very disturbing the daily activities of young women. Adolescents who experience menstrual pain tend to limit their daily activities, especially learning activities. Teenagers who experience menstrual pain are more comfortable to rest at home which results in them being absent from school. One way to reduce menstrual pain is to use herbal plants, namely ginger. Objective: To determine the effect of ginger drink on decreasing the intensity of menstrual pain in level 1 and 4 Nursing students Muhammadiyah University of Gombong. Research Methods: This study uses a quasi-experimental design with a pre and post test approach with control group design. The sample in this study amounted to 30 female students who were taken using purposive sampling method. The instrument of this study used a NRS (Numerical Scoring Scale) questionnaire. Data were analyzed using t-test. Results: The intensity of menstrual pain before being given ginger drink in the treatment group was moderate pain as many as 8 respondents (53.3%), mild pain 5 respondents (33.3%), severe pain 2 respondents (13.3%). While in the moderate pain control group there were 9 respondents (60%), mild pain 4 respondents (26.7%) and severe pain 2 respondents (13.3%). The intensity of menstrual pain after being given the ginger drink intervention in the treatment group was mild pain as many as 12 respondents (80%), moderate pain 3 respondents (20%), while in the control group moderate pain was 10 respondents (66.6%), mild pain was 4 respondents (26.6%) and severe pain 1 respondent (6.7%). There is an effect of ginger drink on decreasing the intensity of menstrual pain as evidenced by a p value of 0.000 (<0.05). Conclusion: There is an effect of ginger drink on decreasing the intensity of menstrual pain in students of level 1 and 4 of Nursing Students Muhammadiyah University of Gombong. Recommendation: Future researchers are expected to develop this research with a blend of ginger mixed with other ingredients
