Abstract
Background : Acne problems are caused by excessive sebum production and follicular epidermidis hyperproliferation, causing follicular blockage, excess sebum production, inflammation and bacterial activity. Mango arumanis leaf is one type of plant that has potential as an acne treatment Objectives: To determine whether the preparation of antibacterial cream 70% methanol extract of mango leaves arumanis (Mangifera indica L var Arumanis) can be used to inhibit the growth of Staphylococcus aureus bacteria that causes acne. Research Methods: This research is an experimental research type. Extraction is done by Maceration method. The preparations were made into 3 formulations by varying the concentration of the extract by 4%, 5%, and 6%. Measurement of the inhibition zone of Staphylococcus aureus bacteria using the well method. Positive control used Tretinoin 0.025%, negative control used preparation without extract. The data obtained were statistically tested using One Way ANOVA. Result : The preparation met the requirements of physical properties but the resulting dispersion did not meet the standard. Formulas 1 and 2 do not meet the standard of adhesion test. The results of the antibacterial test showed that all formulas had a bland effect against bacteria. The average inhibition zone measurements in each formula were 6.75 mm, 8.75 mm and 10.62 mm. In the statistical test the data is normal but the data is not homogeneous. In the post hoc test using Gomes-Howell and each group has a significant difference. Conclusion : The cream formula of mango arumanis leaf extract has antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus Aureus. The best inhibition zone is formulation 3 with an average value of 10.62 mm. Suggestion: develop research using mango arumanis leaf extract into various preparations and test its antibacterial activity against other bacteria
