Abstract

Background: Gastritis is an inflammation of the gastric mucosa caused by helicobacter pylori. Untreated gastritis may lead to complications. Motivation is needed for gastritis sufferers to improve treatment behavior as an effort to prevent recurrent case. Objective: To determine the correlation of motivation and self-medication to prevent gastritis relapse of Universitas Muhammadiyah Gombong students. Method: The method of this research is quantitative descriptive correlation using a cross sectional approach. The sampling technique used stratified proportional random sampling with total samples of 100 respondents. Instruments used motivational questionnaire and a self-medication. Data analysis used univariate analysis and bivariate analysis of Spearman rank. Result: There were 77 respondents (77.0%) who had high motivation and 54 (54.0%) had self- medication. There were 50 respondents (64.9%) who had high motivation with selfmedication and 3 (50.0%) had low motivation with self-medication. Conclusion: There is significant correlation of motivation and self-medication behavior to prevent gastritis relapse of Universitas Muhammadiyah Gombong students, with pvalue (0.000) p < 0.05. Recommendation: Further researchers may examine the factors that influence motivation with self-medication to prevent gastritis relapse among gastritis patients.
