Abstract

Background: Occupational stress is an individual response toward stressors when doing activities in their office such as workload, and individual characteristics included age, gender, educational background, length of the work period, and married status. The workload is a burden or working demands have to finish within a limited time. Objective: To factors associated with workload, individual characteristics of nurses, and occupational stress in the operative room of PKU Muhammadiyah Gombong Hospital. Method: This study was quantitative research. It used a correlational method with a cross-sectional approach. Result: Most nurses had occupation stress at moderate levels, the range of nurses’ age was more than 40 years, most of them were male, the range of nurses’ educational background was a diploma in nursing, most of them got married, and most of the nurses had worked more than 3 years. Conclusion: There was no association between workload and nurse work stress with a p-value of 0.111 (<0.050). Recommendation: Further research will be expected to use a detailed questionnaire to explore variables related to occupational stress
