Abstract

Backgrounds: Thesis is the most difficult task that must be faced by final year students, causing stress. There are various ways to deal with stress, one of which is non-pharmacological, namely music therapy. Objective: Knowing the effect of binaural beats music on reducing stress level of undergraduate thesis students at Universitas Muhammadiyah Gombong in 2022 Method: The present study is quantitative with a quasi-eksperimental research design using pre-test and post-test design, through a cross-sectional approach. The population is 202 students. The sample used is determined by purposive sampling technique, the number of 30 samples is calculated by the random cluster formula. The data colletion was done on the April 13th – May 23rd 2022, the instrument used was the DASS-21 questionnaire. Univariate analysis included before and after being given binaural beats music therapy. Bivariate analysis with paired sample T test. Result: The univariate analysis showed that the majority of repondents before being given binaural beats music therapy experienced moderate stress as many as 17 respondents (56,7%) and the majority of respondents after that experienced normal stress as many as 29 respondents (96.7%). The bivariate analysis using paired sample T statistical test showed that the value of asymp.sig. (2-tailed) 0,000 (<0,05). Conclusion: There is significant effect of binaural beats music on reducing stress level of undergraduate thesis students at Universitas Muhammadiyah Gombong in 2022. Recommendation: The further researchers may develop research on binaural beats music therapy such as applying the music therapy on reducing stress level of preoperative patients.
