Abstract
Background: Currently, the number of elderly aged 60 years old or more in Indonesia is 8.5% of the population. Increasing number of elderly population may lead to disease problems among them. It is helpful to release stress, clear the mind, and improve memory by doing brain gymnastics. Objective: To determine the brain gymnastics on cognitive function of elderly in Wonoharjo, Rowokele, Kebumen. Methods: This study used a quasi experimental research. The samples were 29 elderly people taken by purposive sampling technique. Data were analyzed using descriptive analysis continued by correlation analysis using paired t-test. Results: This study resulted in the finding that most respondents were female (65.5%) and aged 66-70 years old (44.8%). Most respondents prior to brain exercise they had cognitive impairment as probable category (69.0%). Most respondents who have done gymnastics brain had cognitive impairment as probable category (75.9%). Conclusion: The brain gymnastics is effective to improve the cognitive function of the elderly in Wonoharjo, Rowokele, Kebumen.
