Abstract
Background: Patients suffering from mental disorder often experience self-care deficit. The impact on health of this deficit is that their personal hygiene may not be maintained properly and it can have an impact on their physical health. Furthermore, it may have a psychosocial impact that they can transmit diseases to others or be infected. Objective: Describing the application of group activity therapy about personal hygiene for patients with self-care deficit. Method: This scientific paper is an analytical descriptive with a case study approach. Data was obtained through interview, intervention, implementation, evaluation, and observation. The respondents were 3 patients having self-care deficit. Result: After having group activity therapy, there was a decrease in sign and symptom: respondent 1 – from 10 to 5 (feeling weak, lazy to do activities, feeling helpless, dirty hair) (50%), respondent 2 and 3 – from 10 to 6 (feeling weak, lazy to do activities, feeling helpless, dirty body and clothes) (40%). For the increased ability experienced by the three clients, the number of differences is the same, namely 7. Conclusion: The application of group activity therapy can improve personal hygiene of patients having self-care deficit.
