Abstract
Background: Family support is one of the most important types of support with the aimof achieving optimal blood pressure control. Family support can be provided in the form of emotional, appreciation, instrumental and information support. Objective: To determine the relationship between family support and medication adherence in hypertensive patients at PKU Muhammadiyah Kutowinangun Hospital Method: The research design uses descriptive correlation through a cross sectional approach. The population is hypertensive patients at PKU Muhammadiyah Kutowinangun Hospital. The sample size was 86 respondents using purposive sampling who met the inclusion criteria. The independent variable is family support while the dependent variable is medication adherence. Data was collected using questionnaires and observations then analyzed using Spearman Rho with a significance level of a = 0.05. Result: The research results show a significance value (p) = 0.000 and a coefficient value (r) = 0.548. Obtained a significance value (p) of 0.000 < 0.05, so H1 is accepted, meaning that there is a relationship between family support and compliance with taking medication in hypertension sufferers. The correlation coefficient (r) value of 0.548 means that there is a strong relationship (0.51-0.75) between adherence to taking medication and family support Conclusion: It can be concluded that family support is related to medication adherence in hypertensive patients. Recommendation: Future researchers are advised to examine the causes of good family support but non-compliance with taking medication.
