Abstract
Background: Toilet training is one of the tasks of child development, especially in children aged 1-3 years which aims to train children to defecate (BAB) and urinate (BAK) in a place that has been determined properly and correctly independently. The use of diapers that are applied continuously for a long period of time will have a negative impact on toilet training readiness, because the child feels comfortable and if left unchecked will hinder the implementation of toilet training. Objective: To determine the relationship between the use of diapers and toilet training readiness in children aged 1-3 years at Posyandu Gunungmujil Village. Research Methods: This research was an analytic observational study with a cross sectional approach. The number of samples in this study amounted to 73 respondents, taken by cluster random sampling technique. The instrument used a toilet training readiness questionnaire and the used of diapers with the chi-square test statistic. Research Results: The results of this study showed that the average age of the mother was 26-30 years, the average age of the children was 30-36 months, the sex of the daughter (50.7%), the mother did not work/housewife (84.9%), high school mother education (63.1%), use of diapers in children (44.0%) in the frequent category starting from 0-9 months (94.5%), and toilet readiness training in children (79.4%). The relationship between diaper use and toilet training readiness in this study resulted in a p-value of 0.004 (p <0.05). Conclusion: There is a significant relationship between the use of diapers and toilet training readiness in children aged 1-3 years. The results of this study obtained a p-value of 0.004 (p <0.05).
