Abstract
Background, Understanding the experience and readiness of families in caring for people with mental disorders at home can help determine the extent to which families need information and education, ultimately affecting the patient's recovery. Objective, To explore the experience and readiness of families in caring for people with severe mental disorders in the Pejagoan Health Center work area. Method, This research was qualitative research with a phenomenological study approach, employing observation and interviews with five participants, each lasting 20-30 minutes. Data validity was ensured through various tests. Results, The study identified three themes, first Emotional conditions and family perceptions in caring for people with severe mental disorders, which included four categories: ignorance, sadness, environment, and social factors. Second development process of people with severe mental disorders, with three categories: length of treatment, events experienced, and duration of relapse. Third ability of families to care for people with severe mental disorders, with three categories: knowledge, skills, and attitudes. Conclusion, The experience and readiness of the five participating families in caring for people with severe mental disorders were good, but their knowledge was still limited. Recommendations, Future research should focus on the experiences and readiness of families in caring for people with mental disorders.
