Abstract
Background: The incidence of stunting in Indonesia in 2020 reached 31.8%, making it the country with the second highest rate in Southeast Asia. In Central Java, the rate was 20.8%, and in Purworejo Regency, it was 21.3%. Stunting can be influenced by exclusive breastfeeding, which is essential during the growth and development of toddlers to meet their nutritional needs and enhance their antibodies. Objective: To determine the impact of exclusive breastfeeding on the incidence of stunting in children aged 7-24 months. Methods: This study used quantitative methods with a correlation research design and a cross-sectional approach. The sample consisted of 56 respondents. Data analysis was performed using frequency distribution and chi-square analysis. Results: Based on the 56 respondents, 76.8% practiced exclusive breastfeeding, and 67.9% of children were not stunted. The highest percentage of children (41.1%) were aged 19-24 months. Conclusion: The incidence of stunting in children aged 7-24 months in the Pituruh Health Center working area is related to exclusive breastfeeding (p=0.009). Recommendation: Researchers should consider employing different methods, such as interviews, to explore other factors influencing stunting, such as complementary feeding (MP-ASI), parental caregiving patterns, parental income, maternal education, and maternal knowledge regarding nutrition.
