Abstract
of professional and ongoing nursing care. According to WHO, cases of back pain vary widely, ranging from 15-45% worldwide. Objective: To examine the relationship between workload and low back pain among Indonesian careworkers at the Hamasaki Elderly Care Facility, Osaka, Japan. Methods: This study utilized a quantitative research design with a correlational approach. The sample consisted of 50 careworkers distributed across several branches of the Hamasaki Elderly Care Facility: 10 individuals at Hamasaki 1, 12 at Hamasaki 2, 15 at Hamasaki 3, and 13 at Hamasaki 4. The research instrument used was a questionnaire. Data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics, with the Spearman rank correlation test employed to assess the relationship between workload and low back pain. Results: The workload of Indonesian careworkers at the Hamasaki Elderly Care Facility, Osaka, Japan, was categorized as moderate (58.0%). The incidence of low back pain among these careworkers was also classified as moderate (54.0%). A positive correlation was found between workload and low back pain, with a Spearman’s rho value of 0.315 and a p-value of 0.026, indicating a significant relationship between higher workload and increased low back pain. Recommendations: Future researchers are encouraged to conduct longitudinal studies on the same topic to gain a deeper understanding of the causal relationship between workload and low back pain. Then, identify more factors that cause health problems caused by an increase in workload on care workers. This aims to understand more deeply the causal relationship between workload and the incidence of low back pain.
