Abstract

Background: Language skill development is an acquisition process that a child has to get as one of the basic capabilities in accordance with the stages of age and developmental characteristics. Based on Oral Motoric and Speech Clinic data in 2012, it was reported that 19% of Indonesian children (1.5 up to 4 years old) had late language speaking skill development. Therefore, the writer is interested in applying stimulation by demonstrating paper folding (origami) and story telling to improve language skills. Objective: Performing midwifery care for toddlers by demonstrating paper folding (origami) and story telling to improve language skills of children in the age of 1-3 years old and to find out the role of parents in giving the stimulation. Method: This study is an analytical descriptive with a case study approach. Data was obtained from observation and documentation. Result: After having stimulation by demonstrating paper folding (origami) by telling story for 2 weeks, there was an increase in the language speaking skill in every week. Conclusion: Stimulation by demonstrating paper folding (origami) accompanied by telling story for toddlers is considered to be able to improve their language skills.
