Abstract
Background: Infectious disease, especially gastrointestinal infection, is the major cause of children mortality in developing countries, indicated by 1,7 billion of diarrhea incidence every year (WHO, 2013), while in Indonesia is 7% of children <1 years old and of 1-4 year-old children is 6,7% (Health Ministry of Indonesia 2013). Hand-washing is an activity related to cleaning the hands as an important way to prevent infection. Hand washing dance is a method in washing hands done by dancing and singing. By doing so, children can learn how to wash hands correctly and feel happy as well. Therefore, the writer is interested in applying hand washing dance so as it is easy for children to know how to wash their hands properly. Objective: This study aims at knowing the application of hand-washing dance method to increase knowledge of hand- washing technique of pre-school children. Method: This scientific paper is an analytical descriptive with a case study approach. Data were obtained through examination, observation (pre test and pos test), and documentation. Result: After applying hand-washing dance method, there was an increase of children’s knowledge about hand washing technique, i.e. from bad category of all participants to be 7 children (87.5%) had good knowledge that they could wash their hands properly and only 1 child (12.5%) had enough knowledge.
