Abstract
Background: Breast engorgement is one of the problems in breastfeeding process that postpartum mothers often experience. In Indonesia the incidence of engorgement is 55% of all postpartum mothers. One of the ways how to reduce the pain and engorgement of their breasts is by applying a cold cabbage leaves compress. It is effective because of the high content of sulfur which serves as antibiotic and because the cold therapy serves as an analgesic. Objective: This study aims at applying compress of cold cabbage leaves to reduce breast pain and engorgement of postpartum mothers. Besides, it is to know the pain and breast engorgement before and after applying cold cabbage leaves compress. Method: This scientific paper is an analytical descriptive. The study was conducted on postpartum mothers who experienced breast engorgement. Breast engorgement was measured by using engorgement scale, while the pain was measured by using a NRS scale. Result: After having midwifery care by applying cold cabbage leaf compress, there was a decrease in pain and engorgement of the breast of all participants on the second day care. There were 60% of the participants had engorgement 2 scale decrease and the others had 1scale according to engorgement scale. Meanwhile, the pain scale of all participants had decreased by 3 scales.
