Abstract

Background: Every year, more than 2 million people / year come to visit the ED. It is not uncommon to overcrowded patients. In Emergency Services the total Length of Stay (LOS) is used to see the level of density and clinical performance. Internal and external factors such as the patient's clinical characteristics, staff regulation, quick gurney access by health care providers, patient arrival time, practical management, and various types of examinations and actions contribute to an increase in LOS of patients in ED. Objective: To determine the factors that affect length of stay of patients at emergency department PKU Muhammadiyah Sruweng Hospital. Methods: The study used a cohort design with a forward or prospective longitudinal approach. The sample in this study was 100 using Simple random sampling. Data collection using observation sheets. Data were analyzed descriptively and correlatively using the chi square test Results: Most patients in emergency department were adults (55.0%), primary education (elementary / junior high school) (78%), house mother jobs (48.0%). There was an influence on the level of emergency on the length of stay of patients. There was an effect of response time on the length of stay of patients. There is an influence of the availability of inpatient beds on the length of stay of patients. There was no influence on the time of arrival of patients on shift (morning, afternoon, night) to the length of stay of patients. Conclusions: There are influences on the level of emergency, response time, and availability of inpatient beds to the length of stay of patients. Recommendations: Future studies are expected to increase the number of samples, increase the time of research, and improve the observation method.
