Abstract

Background: Caesarean section childbirth provides some benefits meanwhile it may cause side effect inhibiting breast-feeding production. Therefore an oxytocin massage intervention is needed in order to increase the oxytocin hormone so that breast milk expenditure increases. Objective: To determine the effectiveness of oxytocin massage on breastfeeding primipara caesarean section postpartum mothers at PKU Muhammadiyah Hospital of Gombong. Method: The present study was a quantitative research with a quasy experiment design and used pretest and posttest design with control group approach. The samples were 96 respondents taken by purposive sampling technique. Results: Oxytocin massage is effective for breast feeding of primipara caesarean section post partum mothers with significant value p=0.00 (p<0.005). Conclusion: Oxytocin massage is effective on breastfeeding primipara caesarean section postpartum mothers at PKU Muhammadiyah Hospital of Gombong. Recommendation: The hospital management should consider the oxytocin massage for further authorized and applied as a method to speed up the expenditure of breast milk of postpartum mothers.
