Abstract
Background Tuberculosis is a disease that can be treated and cured. Regular medication in a patient Tuberculosis can be cured completely if the patients obey the rules about the treatment of pulmonary tuberculosis medication. The main social support comes from family support because family support plays an important role in the life of tuberculosis patients in struggling to recover, think ahead, and to make his life more meaningful. Objective To find out the correlation between family support and the compliance of tuberculosis patients in taking medicine at PKU Muhammadiyah Gombong Hospital. Methods This is a non-experimental research that used descriptive analytic method and cross sectional approach. 38 samples were taken by total sampling technique. The data were collected by using a structured interview questionnaire and analyzed by using chi square test. Results 12 patients (40%) received good family support, 21 patients (70%) adhered to the treatment of pulmonary tuberculosis. 8 patients (26.7%) received quite good family support, 9 patients (30%) did not adhere to the treatment of pulmonary tuberculosis. Conclusion There was a significant correlation between family support and the compliance of tuberculosis patients in taking medicine at PKU Muhammadiyah Gombong Hospital (x2=10.519 and =0.001 <0.05)
