Abstract
Background: Labor pain can cause stress leading to excessive release of hormones, such as catecholamines and steroids. These hormones can cause smooth muscle tension and constricting blood vessels. This can lead to the decrease of uterine contractions, utero placental circulation, blood flow and the decrease of oxygen to the uterus. This can also cause ischemia of the uterus which makes pain impulses become more and more. Acupressure technique is really effective to reduce labor pain in the first stage. This acupressure technique was applied to Mrs. S, a 22 year-old mother with GIP0A0 during the first stage labor in private midwifery clinic of Midwife Tri Winarsih S.ST at Mangli, Kuwarasan, Kebumen. Objective: To provide a qualified comprehensive midwifery care to Mrs. S, a 22 year-old mother with GIP0A0 by applying acupressure technique in the first stage. Method: This study is a descriptive qualitative with case study design.The instruments used are observation sheet for pain and pain scale, stationery and a watch for monitoring. The primary data was obtained through interviews and observations. The secondary data was obtained from literary study. The data analysis was done by reduction, presentation conclusion. Result: After having acupressure, the pain scale of Mrs. S changed – from pain scale 3-8 became pain scale 2-6. Conclusion: The comprehensive delivery care has been applied well in accordance with the maternal affection care and the application of acupressure was able to reduce the labor pain of the first stage.
