Abstract

Background: Asthma patients have problems with ineffective breathing patterns. Ineffective breathing patterns are a condition where inspiration and expiration are inadequate. Asthma is characterized by shortness of breath, cough, hyperventilation, wheezing. Many factors cause asthma, such as air pollution, cold, stress, and exhausting activities. Buteyko's breathing technique attempts to change an asthma sufferer's unwanted habit of excessive breathing, often known as hyperventilation, into a new habit of breathing slower and more shallowly. The goal is to reduce the risk of impaired gas exchange so as to relieve asthma symptoms and improve the patient's quality of life. Objektive: This case study describes nursing care for asthmatics with ineffective breathing patterns by providing complementary therapy with Buteyko breathing techniques. Methods: This paper describes a descriptive method with a case study approach, data collected from interviews, observations, physical examinations, the subject consisted of 2 asthmatic patients who were given complementary therapy with the Buteyko breathing technique. Result: After nursing care for 3 days and given therapy with breathing techniques buteyko nursing care ineffective breathing patterns in patients 1 and 2 can be resolved with the results on the first day of patient 1 RR: 32 and control pause: 6, patient 2 RR: 31 and control pause: 7, and the results of the third day of patient 1 RR: 22 and control pause: 15, patient 2 RR: 21 and control pause: 16.
