Abstract

Background: Psychological disorders during the post-partum period can reduce confidence mothers when they take care of newborns (parenting self-efficacy). There are a lot of the influence factors to a mother carry out her parenting tasks, they are the socioeconomic status level of education, job status, and salary. Objective: To determine the relationship of personal characteristics to parenting selfefficacy in post-partum mothers. Method: This study used a descriptive design with a cross-sectional approach. As much of 40 respondents joined in this study. The research instrument utilized personal characteristics and Parenting Self Efficacy Scale (PSES). Thus, analyzed using the chisquare test. Results: There was a relationship between the level of education and parenting selfefficacy (p = 0,000). There was a relationship between job status to parenting selfefficacy (p = 0.024). There was a relationship between salary to parenting self-efficacy (p = 0.013). There was no relationship between commuter marriage to parenting selfefficacy (p = 0.316). There was no relationship between age with parenting self-efficacy (p = 0.080). Conclusion: education level, job status, salary were factors that were related to parenting self-efficacy in postpartum mothers. Recommendation: further study can take parenting self-efficacy as a variable in qualitative research.
