Abstract

Background: Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a chronic and non-communicable disease with a high risk of causing serious problems in the world. Diabetes mellitus can occur complications at all levels of cells and all levels of anatomic complications, including macrovascular and microvascular. The ABI examination can detect impaired blood flow in the legs, it measures the ratio of the systolic pressure in the arm to the systolic pressure of the lower leg. Objective: Determining the effect of the application of foot gymnastics on the value of ABI in people with diabetes mellitus. Method: This study used a PICO framework design, which this literature was collected based on journals and published articles from 2013 - 2020 on the Google Scholar database, PubMed, Research Gate, ProQuest related to ABI and leg exercises. Results: In the study, data are obtained from 10 journals according to Duffy's Research Appraisal Checklist Approach, they are showed that effective leg exercises can improve normal ABI values. Conclusion: The researcher gave the foot exercises interventions that can improve circulation in the upper part of the leg it’s shown by measuring the normal ABI value. Recommendations: It is hoped that the provision of foot exercise intervention can be included as a follow-up intervention and as a means of information to reduce perfusion disorders in the leg area.
