Abstract

Background : Hospitalization in children is a condition where the child is hospitalized due to a planned and emergency reason that requires the child to be hospitalized to carry out therapy and treatment until the child's condition improves and can be returned. Children who are hospitalized are very vulnerable to psychological changes. Psychological changes that occur in children include stress, anxiety, and depression. Objective : Knowing the effect of hospitalization on children's psychological changes in the inpatient room of Muhammadiyah Hospital in Kebumen Regency. Method : This research is quantitative descriptive. Subjects were pediatric patients treated at Muhammadiyah Hospital in Kebumen Regency. The sampling technique was simple random sampling and the number of samples was 84 people. The research instrument was a modified Beck Depression Inventory observation sheet, stress observation sheet, and anxiety observation sheet. Result : From 84 parent and child respondents, it was found that the characteristics of the majority of parents aged 25 to 35 years were 59 people (70.2%), for the majority of parents' education the majority of high school education was 75 (89.3%), and the majority of parents who accompanied their children were mothers were 82 (97.6%). Characteristics of the majority of child respondents aged 4 to 6 years were 50 children (59.5%), the majority of the sex of the respondents were 54 male children (64.3%). Changes in the psychology category of anxiety in children who undergo treatment in hospitals the majority experience mild anxiety as much as 45 (53.3%). For the category of stress in children undergoing treatment in hospitals the majority experienced moderate stress as many as 49 (58.3%). For the category of depression in children who undergo treatment in hospital the majority experienced mild depression as many as 45 (53.6%). Conclusion : The results of this study indicate the effect of hospitalization on psychological changes in children of the majority value with mild anxiety levels, for the category of moderate stress and for the category of mild depression. Recommendation : The results are recommended for future researchers to look in more detail and detail at the effects of hospitalization on children's psychological changes and can provide interventions that can reduce levels of anxiety, stress, and depression
