Abstract

Background: Stroke has become a major cause of disability. One of the rehabilitation programs that can be given to stroke patients is range of motion training or commonly known as Range Of Motion (ROM). One form of training is the Cylindrical grip. The cylindrical grip can provide tone for those experiencing weaknesses and if done continuously it can stimulate the surrounding muscles to contract so as to increase muscle strength in stroke patients. Objective: To present the literature review on the improvement of muscle strength in stroke patients using ROM: Cylindrical Grip Methods: This study is a literature review on the improvement of muscle strength in stroke patients using ROM: Cylindrical Grip. Sources used in this study are from the electronic database Google Scholar, Researchgate and Academia.edu. The keywords used in this study were "Stroke", "ROM", "Cylindrical Grip", "muscle strength". In this study, the articles used were articles from 2018 to 2020. Result: ROM Cylindrical Grip exercise was effective in increasing muscle strength. This therapy is recommended for use because the technique is simple, does not require tools and materials, does not require special abilities to apply it and can be performed by all stroke patients who have muscle weakness. Conclusion: The more intense the patient does the ROM Cylindrical Grip exercise, the faster the recovery of the patient's muscle strength will be. Recommendation: ROM Cylindrical Grip exercise needs to be done programmatically in the stroke patient care room so that it can speed up the recovery of the patient's muscle strength.
