Abstract
Background, melinjo leaf (Gnetum gnemon L.) is one of the natural plants that can be used to treat inflammation or inflammation Research Purpose, this study aims to determine the anti-inflammatory activity of 70% ethanol extract of melinjo leaves (Gnetum gnemon L.) on wistar strain white rats that carrageenan induced. Method, this is an experimental study using 70% ethanol extract of melinjo (Gnetum gnemon L.) leaves. The ethanol extract of melinjo leaves was tested by tube and TLC test. Anti-inflammatory activity test using the winter method on 25 white rats from the wistar line divided into 5 treatment groups. Group I as a positive control (diclofenac sodium), group II as a negative control (CMC-Na), group III extract 363 mg/kgBW, group IV extract 463 mg/kgBW, and group V extract 563 mg/kgBW. The test material was given 1 hour after being induced by carrageenan. The volume of rat foot edema was measured using a plastimometer every 15 minutes for 3 hours. The data obtained was then tested by One Way Anova. Result, showed that the 70% ethanol extract of melinjo leaves (Gnetum gnemon L.) contained flavonoid compounds, tannins, saponins and alkaloids. The results showed that the 70% ethanol extract of melinjo leaves (Gnetum gnemon L.) at all treatment doses had an anti-inflammatory effect. Positive control had no significant difference with doses 2 and 3 with p>0.05. The negative control had a significant difference with all extract concentrations and the positive control with p<0.05. Conclusions, based on the results of the study, it can be concluded that the 70% ethanol extract of melinjo leaves (Gnetum gnemon L.) showed the higher the dose of ethanolic extract of melinjo leaves, the higher the anti-inflammatory activity and the highest anti-inflammatory activity at 563 mg/kgBW. Recommendation, the recommendation from this study is that further research is needed on the anti-inflammatory effectiveness of melinjo leaves (Gnetum gnemon L.) using different methods and solvents.
