Abstract
Background: The parents’ role is very important in toilet training for toddlers. However, some parents still lack of knowledge about toilet training and have no education from health workers. The success of toilet training is influenced by several factors, such as education and parents’ knowledge about toilet training. To help parents in toilet training for their toddlers, they can give their toddlers savings chips and picture-story books. This will affect their compliance. In addition, children are also given suggestion, advice and understanding about the benefits and objectives of the expected compliance behavior. Objective: To know the effectiveness of picture-story books and economic tokens in the success of toilet training for toddlers aged 1-3 years. Method: This study is a type of case-study research. Data were obtained from interview, observations, and literary study. The participants were 5 toddlers in the age 1 – 3 years old who met the inclusion criteria. The instruments used were observation sheets and questionnaire sheets. Result: After being given picture-story books and economic token, there was an increas in the success of toilet training: from 63% to 100% (participant 1), from 40% to 63% (participant 2), from 38% to 66% (participant 3), from 60% to 96% (participant 4), and from 43% to 68% (participant 5). Conclusion: Picture-story books and economic token are effective in the success of toilet traing for toddlers in the age of 1 – 3 years old
