Abstract

Background:A mother in the first stage of labor processalways gets pain. This pain can be overcome by applying deep breathing relaxation technique and lemon aromatherapy.It can be done by inhaling the lemon aromatherapy in slowly deep breath with chest breathing through the nose so that the oxygen will flow into the bloodstream. After that, the oxygen is flowed slowly out through the mouth. When oxygen flows throughout the body, endorphins will flow into the body as natural pain relievers. Objective:To find out the application of deep breathing relaxation technique and lemon aromatherapy on the level of labor pain of the first stage. Method:This studyis a qualitative descriptive witha case study approach by using pretest-posttest design. Data was obtained from observation and literary study. The participants were 3 mothers who met the inclusion criteria. The instruments were Informed Consent Sheets, stationery, camera, questionnaire sheets, SOP (Standard Operational Procedure), cotton, and lemon aromatherapy. Result:After having application of deep breathing relaxation technique and lemon aromatherapy, there was a decrease in level of labor pain - from score 6 became 3 (participant 1), from score 7 became 3 (participant 2), fromscore 7 became 3 (participant 3). Conclusion:The application of deep breathing relaxation technique and lemon aromatherapy can decrease the level of labor pain of the first stage
