Abstract
Background: Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF) is an infection caused by dengue virus. One of the signs and symptoms of DHF is the enlargement / leakage of plasma which will result in fluid shifting from intracellular to extracellular. This will cause a decrease for a patient in fluid volume (hypovolemia) and in platelet levels. Management of DHF can be done by applying non-pharmacological therapy, that is by giving guava juice therapy. Objective: To describe a nursing care for DHF patients by giving guava juice to overcome hypovolemia. Method: This study is an analytical descriptive with a case study approach. Data were obtained from interview, observation, and medical records. The participants were 3 patients with the same diagnosis. The instruments used were therapeutic observation sheets and laboratory results. Result: After having the application of guava juice therapy for 3 days, there was an increase in the platelet levels of all participants. Conclusion: Guava juice therapy is effective for increasing platelet levels of DHF patients. Recommendation: DHF patients are suggested to continue the treatment program independently at home until they have normal condition.
