Abstract

Background: Most pregnant mothers feel nausea and vomiting in their 1st trimester pregnancy, and only few experience severe nausea and vomiting that need medical treatment. Continuous nausea and vomiting can cause the disturbance of the common function of vital organs (kidneys and liver) that can even lead to death. Besides, it can cause malnutrition that can hamper the growth of the fetus. To overcome nausea and vomiting during pregnancy, non-pharmachological treatment can be applied by giving mint leaves aromatherapy. Objective: To know the effect of mint leaves aromatherapy upon nausea and vomiting of mothers in their first trimester pregnancy. Method: This study is a descriptive case study. The data was obtained from observations and lterary study. The participants were 3 pregnant mothers who met the inclusion and exclusion criteria. The instruments used were informed consent, humidifier, SOP sheet, observation sheet. Result:. After two weeks of application of mint leaves aromatherapy, there was decreasing nausea and vomiting of mothers in their 1 st trimester pregnancy (8 times a day became twice a day). Conclusion : The application of mint leaves aromatherapy is effective to decrease nausea and vomiting of mothers in their 1 st trimester pregnancy.
