Abstract

Background: The prevalence of stroke increases every year. Stroke is a type of disability caused by paralysis of the limbs. These problems can change the life of someone, both physically and psychologically. The family member who has a stroke has to help from them. The role of the caregiver is required for stroke patients to provide needs and care for themselves. But not all family members voluntarily want to take care of a family member who has a stroke, and sometimes this situation makes the caregivers stressed. Objective: To identify the relationship between caregiver burden and stress levels of family members who have stroke patients in RS PKU Muhammadiyah Gombong. Method: This study used a quantitative descriptive with a cross-sectional approach. A hundred twenty-two joined in this study. The sampling technique used consecutive sampling method and data study analyzed Chi-square test. Results: Sixty-three respondents showed that their burden level was moderate (51.64%), and the stress level of sixty respondents was moderate (49.18%). The results chi-square test indicated a correlation between both variables (p= 0.035, < 0.05). It means that there was a relationship between caregiver burden and stress levels of family members who have stroke patients in RS PKU Muhammadiyah Gombong. Conclusion: There was a relationship between caregiver burden and stress levels of family members who have stroke patients in RS PKU Muhammadiyah Gombong. Recommendation: Further researchers hope to conduct qualitative research to explore stroke patients' family members or add specific variables.
