Abstract
Background: The birth of a baby with low birth weight is still a problem in the world because LBW is one of the causes of newborn death. LBW is very susceptible to hypothermia because BWthe subcutaneous fat is very thin, therefore it is very easily influenced by environmental temperature. Alternative treatment methods for LBW infants are more effective, inexpensive, and easy to treat hypothermia by using KMC treatment. A simple way to care for LBW babies, because the mother's body temperature is used to warm the baby. KMC has been able to meet the needs of LBW, which is to provide conditions and situations similar to the womb of a mother and all babies that have the opportunity to adapt well to the outside world. General objective: Analyzing the nursing care of LBW patients with hypothermia at PKU Muhammadiyah Gombong Hospital. Methods: This research used a descriptive case study. The subjects were 5 LBW infants with hypothermia who met the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Collecting data using the observation sheet for signs of hypothermia and SOP KMC. Presentation of data by drawing conclusions based on subjective and objective data, which are presented in the method of documentation and nursing care. Results: The assessment of the five patients showed cold and body temperature <36.5°C. Priority nursing diagnosis is hypothermia. The intervention that has been carried out is active external warming with KMC. The results of the evaluation of akral felt warm, the results of the pre and post KMC evaluation there was an increase in temperature according to the average, for By. Mrs. P (1.2°C), By. Mrs. T (1.3°C), By. Mrs. S (1.3°C), By. Mrs. M (1°C), and By. Mrs. S (1.3°C). So that KMC is effective in overcoming hypothermia. Recommendations: Recommendations related to this case study according to WHO or the World Health Organization that the prevention of hypothermia in newborns is skin-toskin contact with the baby's mother or KMC.
