Abstract
Introduction: Premature birth (before 37 weeks of pregnancy) and fetal growth restriction are the most common causes of low birth weight. Low birth weight is a term used to describe babies born weighing less than 5 pounds, 8 ounces (2.500 grams). Murrotal A-Qur’an can be used as therapy because if it makes a comfortable sensation. Aim: Giving nursing care for low birth weight infants with ineffective breathing patterns and apply Murrotal Qur’an as nursing complementary. Methods: This study was a descriptive case study. A number of five infants with low birth weight and respiratory rate greater than normal (42 – 78 times a minute), sternal retraction were observed by nurse. Nurse deliver supplemental oxygen by nasal cannula and neonatal Continous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP). The infants listened Murrotal Qur’an during three days. All nursing procedures as documented in nursing documentation. Result of Nursing Care: The priority of nursing problems is ineffective breathing patterns related to respiratory effort obstruction. The result of nursing observation was respiratory status monitoring, which included: speed; rhythm; depth; and breathing difficulty. Sternal retraction movement was not more than one degree, symmetries in the lungs, diaphragm muscles, and chest retractions. Then, the Murottal Al-Quran therapy for 15 minutes in 3 days as complementary nursing and stimulated breathing patterns of infants. Recomendation: The results of this study can be used as a reference for nursing care to low birth weight infants with ineffective breathing patterns, and Murottal Al-Quran therapy can become stimulation for the infants’ problems.
