Abstract

Background: Asthma is a chronic inflammatory disorder of the airways that attacks both adults and children. Asthma is caused by airway edema and excessive mucus production leading to airway obstruction. Excessive sputum production causes ineffective airway clearance and if not treated, it will lead to hypoxia. Effective coughing is a correct way of coughing, where patients can save energy so they don't get tired easily and can expel phlegm maximally with the aim of increasing lung expansion, mobilizing secretions to prevent side effects from retention to secretions. General objective: To explain nursing care by providing effective cough therapy in asthmatic patients who experience ineffective airway clearance. Methods: This type of research is descriptive research. The number of samples was 5 patients with asthma who experienced ineffective airway clearance in the emergency room at RSUD DR. Tjitrowardojo Purworejo The research instrument is medical records, SOP for Effective Cough. Results of nursing care: The results of the assessment that had been carried out on the five patients were obtained based on signs and symptoms (subjective and objective data) that appeared to experience ineffective airway clearance. Interventions carried out to overcome the problem of ineffectiveness of acute airway clearance are measuring TTV, giving bronchodilator drugs and performing effective coughing techniques. The implementation that has been carried out on the five patients to overcome the ineffectiveness of airway clearance is measuring vital signs, assessing the airway and performing effective cough therapy. The results of the evaluation of the five patients after effective cough therapy were carried out, it was found that the patient's ability to expel phlegm. Recommendation: Based on the results of the analysis after nursing actions were carried out, effective cough therapy for the five patients with effective cough could be an additional therapy for asthma patients.
