Abstract
Background: Hypertension is the third leading cause of death in the world, therefore prevention is needed by controlling risk factors such as reducing salt intake, doing activities and others. Handling of hypertensive patients with pharmacological and non-pharmacological methods, one of the nonpharmacological methods is the isometric handgrip exercise which can reduce blood pressure. Objective: To describe nursing care for hypertensive patients with the application of isometric handgrip exercises to reduce blood pressure. Methods: This type of research was descriptive with a case study approach. Data obtained from interviews, observations and documentation. Respondents in this study consisted of 3 patients suffering from hypertension, who had met the inclusion criteria, namely hypertensive clients with blood pressure of 140/90 mmHg 180/110 mmHg, adult clients 18-50 years old, composmentistic and cooperative awareness. The instrument used is handgrip, observation sheet, sphygmometer, SOP for isometric handgrip exercise for 5 days. Results: After applying for 5 consecutive days all respondents experienced a decrease in blood pressure with an average client I systolic 5.8 mmHg and diastolic 3.6 mmHg, client II systolic 6 mmHg and diastolic 3.6 mmHg, and client III systolic 7 mmHg and diastolic 3 mmHg. Recommendation: Isometric handgrip exercise can reduce blood pressure in hypertensive patients
